I hope they don't censor this...

Next on the Agenda from Washington? The "Fairness Doctrine". The policy, originally introduced in 1949, required that radio and television stations give equal time to conservative and liberal opinions on political issues under the threat of penalties or license revocation. The policy was abandoned in 1987 by President Reagan.

Never heard of it? Not sure what it means? It means - bottom line - CENSORSHIP. The death of Free Speech. Here are some interesting links:

1. World Net Daily Feb 12, 2009
2. World Net Daily Feb 3, 2009
3. Petition to Oppose
4. Wall Street Journal Editorial by Jon Sinton

This scares me big time. This isn't really about incorporating equal time to differing sides of an issue. (Hell we're not talking about an official debate anyway.) This is about shutting up those voices that would dissent from Big Brother's Plan. Read the novel by George Orwell, "1984" if you don't know the term.

Liberals can't seem to get a big enough audience in the Talk Radio genre. There doesn't appear to be the audience - so there aren't any advertisers to keep them afloat. Ironically, mainstream media (i.e., TV) appears to be just FINE with leaning liberal left and not presenting a more even and balanced picture for its audience. People like me have to turn to the Internet, Radio, and what few TV options they have to find those they can identify with.

So, because there doesn't appear to be a strong liberal audience in Talk Radio, the goal is to effectively KILL Talk Radio. Punish the winner because the loser can't manage to succeed. Strip it down to it's bones, folks. This isn't about equality. This is about killing the American Spirit and the ability to think freely.

"Oh no don't be silly. This is America. The land of the free. Of course you can listen to whatever you want - as long as we've deemed it's appropriate for you. As long as we've weeded out the unmentionables that might offend your senses. We're here to protect and keep you safe. You don't have to worry your pretty little head about anything - we'll take care of you."

THOSE are the thoughts that are running around in my brain. THOSE are the speeches I'm afraid we're going to be hearing from this Administration soon. I'm really hoping that I'm not alone in my fears and that there are other Americans willing to stand with me and do what they can to ensure that this "Fairness Doctrine" doesn't get put back into play.

Seriously - whether you agree with conservatism or not. Do you really want to lose your right to listen to whatever the hell you want? If not - go and sign the petition and tell somebody else to.

p.s. Happy Birthday Mr. Lincoln. I wonder how he would feel about the "Fairness Doctrine"?
