He's a big guy now, and acting like it. Acting all big and tough and...? DUMB. But then I guess we all got dumb when we really started being teenagers right?! Of course when I was growing up the dangers that presented themselves to teens were not as great or lethal (it seems) as what faces our kids today.

As he has started the downward slide of missing assignments and mouthing off to his teachers and talking too much in class, I've put my foot down with consequences that he felt immediately. No more electronics for 3+ weeks. No more hip-hop/rap music. (I had blogged about this a month or so ago - his love for it) He can no longer listen to the popular radio station that his friends listen to and has had to delete all of the rap songs from his MP3 player. He also hasn't been able to listen to his MP3 player for close to a week now. He can't go to the local dance this Friday night. TV has been even more limited and he doesn't have free access to any and all shows - I have to approve them.

Now this was always the way - I approve what he listens to and watches. But there are times when I've been a little more lax and tried to respect his individuality. I liked different things growing up than my mom - you know? But dammit. DAMMIT. I just don't see any real positive influence that comes from hip-hop/rap that the kids all want to listen to. And this is a style of music that came into being as I grew up. It isn't as if I'm some old fuddy-duddy who is so out of whack with the modern times.

But after all of these years with my only enjoying a handful of songs/artists (more dance less rap) - I still have yet to see the REALLY powerful and positive message behind this style of "music". Because? It simply doesn't seem to exist. Not really. And the kids - gosh the kids that my son hangs out with. They do NOT come from the hood or tough streets. They haven't grown up in project housing or long-established welfare households. Sure some of them come from divorced families and unemployed parents, and some tougher financial straights (hello? I was unemployed for 18 months until 6 months ago and am a single mom). But even with any of the trials and tough things these kids experience (there is some gang activity locally sure..) it is NOTHING compared to what is discussed in these songs. Their culture is NOT that culture.

So why do they gravitate towards it so? Why is it so damned interesting or thought to be cool? I simply do not get it. I didn't get it when I was growing up. I mean - who wants to live in fear all day every day that you'll be shot or someone close to you will be shot? WHAT?! How is that awesome or cool or something to be envied or admired? Why do they wish to be associated with crime, thievery, getting one's street "cred", being sexually promiscuous, and outsmarting the police? How on earth is that appealing - on any level?!

Anyway - this is the music that my son has gotten interested in over the last few months. And while he still has a pretty varied musical collection (thanks to yours truly) - this is what he 'd listen to most of all if given his choice. And? He's a real punk most of the time now. He is mouthy and disrespectful. And yes I know some of that comes from his burgeoning teenage rebellion. But not all of it. No. A lot of it comes from what he watches and listens to - it does for all of our kids.

I will fight him tooth and nail to do my best so that he doesn't continue to be this kind of "poser" that will only get him into trouble with really tough kids that will be affronted by his posturing. Or any of his friends' posturing. But more importantly I will do everything I can to remind him that there is nothing wrong with coming from a solid family. From a somewhat milder neighborhood. That there is nothing wrong and only everything RIGHT with embracing education and respect and goodness towards others.

So he'll continue on as an Honors Black Belt in Karate. He'll continue on in the Young Marines youth group (oh get your kids involved - they are awesome!). And he'll continue to be taught to stand tall and straight and proud. He'll be taught about America and honor. He has no choice.

I suppose he'll resent me the whole way.

Until he doesn't. Right?!

And because I'm posting - check out this WSJ article:

Why Liberals don't get Tea Party Movement
I happened to enjoy that Tea Party rally we were at over the weekend!

Golden State Rally for America 2010!, Pleasanton | Events | Yelp

Golden State Rally for America 2010!, Pleasanton | Events | Yelp

Another huge event for the Bay Area today! A lot of it is mostly harmless - good dance music that I myself would want to listen and be-boop (that's right I said it) out to. But not all of it. The station is a local R&B/Dance/Hip Hop station and some of the songs are just too grown up.

For example, they are playing the hell out of "Love the way you Lie" by Eminem. Someone tried to tell me it's an anthem AGAINST obsessive/abusive relationships. However, when you watch the video (very steamy yes, but completely "wrong" in tone and nature for our youth to watch) and listen the lyrics, it more or less is just a story about obsessive/abusive relationships. Like- this is simply what it's like. I'm sure when he wrote the lyrics he was thinking of his much-publicized troubles with his wife, Kim. ANYWAY - the terrible thing is that he has wrapped his lyrics/rap in a hugely awesome and addictive hook. I mean it sounds GREAT. It is physically difficult to turn it off the radio when it comes on - it just sounds that good. But turn it off, I do. Because - the subject matter is atrocious.

So here I am trying to talk to my son about variety in his music. Luckily for me, he really likes a lot of different stuff. I mean he sings songs from "Glee" over and over (and over) as well as country and rock (old and new). This kid likes classical. And yeah, he likes what "the young kids" are listening to with all of the nodding of the heads and veiled (and not so veiled)innuendos - AND unfortunately for me ties/threads to what some call "culture" in terms of urban life/gang life. Because there is no denying that even if pop/techno/hip hop songs are relatively harmless - they still are tied (even loosely) to that OTHER crap. The very negative crap that I've STILL yet to see positive come from. Even after all of these years.

And I've been looking. I've long been a fan of many forms of music and I'm not that old. These styles of music were evolving when I was in my teens and then took hold when I was in my 20's. So it isn't like I'm a complete boob and know nothing. And what I do know is that there still isn't much to be positive about in reference to this urban "culture".

And it's something that I'm working hard to keep my son from de-sensitizing himself to. Even when I sound like my mother did as we watched Madonna rolling around on the stage floor and I just thought that woman was so very cool and strong. And she was. But really? The stage floor?! Hell now - when she opens her mouth on world events, I want to shove a sandwich in it - although I still dig the woman's music........

In other news, color me VERY interested that a Tea Party candidate took the primary in Alaska. I just find that so very interesting. Interesting indeed for what is to come in November baby!

teens, tv and lying oh my!

My son is 13. It was a busy spring and summer. What can I say? Life has a way of getting in the way of online life...

So let me bring you up to speed. I'm working now and have been for several months. It's currently on a "temp to perm" basis and I'm keeping my fingers crossed it goes "perm" sooner rather than later. My son had some respect/behavioral challenges at the end of the school year and went under what we call "lock-down". He's now re-focused and on the right path. He's such a great kid. Oh and he's now an active Young Marine (great youth group). I simply couldn't be more proud of him or the young man he is becoming.

I've still had my eyes and ears on Washington and Sacramento. Naturally, I find myself stumped that folks still just don't seem to "get" what Obama's real mission is. Or what the Liberals' mission is. Or the fact that even our "allies" in Congress (i.e. Republicans) have lost their way - or rather have been lost for a very long time. DUDES - it's time for a big spring cleaning. We need to start over from scratch!!!

And I certainly don't understand why so many in my state are so willing to fight for Prop 8 and the right for all to marry, but won't spend the same energy fighting for individual rights in terms of health care. Or so many other individual rights that are being squandered and stolen from us.

More recently, I've been educating myself more on Islam. And what I'm learning scares the shit out of me. This is not a religion to be taken lightly or ignored. (In fact there isn't any real distinction between the religion and government.) I know that many folks are tired of hearing about this Mosque at Ground Zero - but it IS a huge topic. And no, I cannot contest the legalities involved. Sure legally it can be built. No laws are being broken. But it is HUGELY insensitive to the violent terrorist acts that were committed there. More than that? I believe it is one more victory stroke for the Jihad that is being waged. One more foothold in our nation.

You can bet that if someone wanted to pay for a big bulletin board across the street from said Mosque repudiating Islam - there would be Hell to pay. And I bet the board would be taken down very quickly due to being "intolerant" or "offensive". Yet hey - let's just let them build a trophy Mosque near Ground Zero. SURE...

I've got a couple of really interesting videos I want to share. I have to do my part to share what I'm learning. Education is not the same as intolerance. However, while I tolerate many religions around me (being an athiest I sort of have to) - I will NOT tolerate being blind to a so-called "religion of peace" or to those who practice it. Islam is something that people REALLY need to open their eyes and brains to. I have many other links that have been collected and sent to me that I hope to share over time.

What the West Needs to Know About Islam (full movie)

3 Things About Islam

YouTube - I'm also starting to worry about what is going to happen to my Unemployment Insurance Benefits. Seriously.

My son and I had to move back home. I'm very lucky to have the family support that I do. But I feel the weight of their hospitality every single day pressing down on me. And some days I feel like I'm not doing enough to look for work, when I'm scrounging for ideas and resources. What is one to do?

In other happier news, I have been successful still with my weight loss and achieving fitness goals and look to perhaps start a blog on that issue here as well. My son is doing well (after some hiccups at the beginning of the school year) in a private school that we've all come together to pay for. We do not trust the public junior high schools or high schools in this area to provide the safe environment and higher education that he needs. How sad is THAT?!

I'm so happy for what happened in Massachusetts!!! This is great news and I hope it's an indicator of more people "waking up" and realizing that officials in Washington are not responding and respecting their constituents. Not to mention looking to sell us down the socialist river...so yay!!!

I will try to be more active around here as I struggle to keep my spirits high and energized on personal things as well as the crumbling of our nation around us!

Big Hollywood » Blog Archive » ‘Dances With Wolves’ In Space: Cameron’s ‘Avatar’ Gets Visuals Right, Everything Else Wrong

And this is why I won't see a film that I had previously thought I'd like to see:
Big Hollywood » Blog Archive » ‘Dances With Wolves’ In Space: Cameron’s ‘Avatar’ Gets Visuals Right, Everything Else Wrong

New advice: Skip mammograms in 40s, start at 50 - Yahoo! What time I've spent on the pc has been spent fine-tuning and posting resumes, emails, reading articles, etc....I've also been having to do some micro-managing of the boy. I swear, do all twelve year-olds just develop a MOUTH overnight? (I think the sad truth is they do..because I seem recall I might have?~!)

However, I was amused to read this Editorial @ The Washington Times (and thought I'd share) vs. this nonsense, Highs and Lows of Obama's first 100 days - which certainly seemed to leave OUT lots of things that occurred in that time. What is wrong with the media? (*Don't worry I know the answer, I just don't understand the WHY*) *sigh* There are many other articles I could complain about or bitch about, but as I sit here tonight listening to my son sing off-key with his MP3 player going and putting dishes away, I'm just not going to expend the energy. After all, I do have a phone interview tomorrow (oops I didn't mention that yet did I?!) and I don't want to get depressed!

I am, however, going to pimp a show that my Dad talked to me about a few years ago, and that a couple of other people recommended to me. That show is The Unit. Talk about some great patriotic TV. The men of The Unit are far from perfect, but they are men who serve their country unfailingly. It's a great drama with a lot of gritty action. This is a show that I encourage my son to watch as well. Goodness knows he needs all of the positive male role models I can toss his way. We've watched all of the seasons and are all caught up and I'm afraid it's in danger of being canceled. So please try this show out!

Anyway, sorry for the disjointed post. Off to cook, interview prep, hang with the boy, and try not to obsess with the sad state of our nation.

...everybody's working for the weekend

It's been an emotional week - this Tea Party week. Even though I've gotten angry, frustrated, irate, pissed off, disgusted, mortified, etc. - I still feel GOOD. I feel good about what I took part in. I even looked up some great quotes and posted them to the left over there <------ for folks to read.

I believe (I HAVE to believe it) that people are waking up. They've had enough. Those that were getting mad under Bush's 2nd term [I was one of them] have finally reached their boiling point. And they are standing up to Big Government and working hard to have their voices heard. We have to press on. Please make your voices heard.

In that spirit, my dad wrote a fantastic post that I have to push and share with you. [The next photo is my sister & mom with our signs] I had the great honor to attend a TEA PARTY in Pleasanton, CA. I've been meaning to blog about it, but just haven't been able to sit down to do so until today. It's been hard to put into words the feelings I've been carrying around with me since Wednesday. Honestly. I've never been more proud to be an American. The experience was absolutely heart-warming and enriching. I cannot tell you how great it was to see so many people come out and stand up for what they believe in. We also were lucky enough to have gorgeous weather - just the icing on the cake. I've been listening practically non-stop to Rush, Sean, Brian, Mark, etc. since then. And frankly their sentiments echo my own. AND they are way more eloquent than I could ever be. So if you want to know how I'm feeling - spend some time listening in! :)
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_t5WrkDiG5Qc/SekyV5uA14I/AAAAAAAAADU/3Q3xyO1wrmc/s400/March+-+April+2009+063.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5325843386194777986" />
There were people from all walks of life in attendance: Old, young, male, female, families, single people, black, white, asian, hispanic - you name it! We had some great speakers: Brian Sussman from KSFO, Tom Del Beccaro from Political Vanguard.com, and Mayor Abram Wilson from San Ramon [a black man by the way - do you hear that Ms. Garofalo?!!] to name a few. I loved how the Mayor repeatedly affirmed in his speech that elected official work for US [you and me] - it's not the other way around. We had lovely patriotic music. There were only a few police officers hanging around to make sure that nothing got out of hand. Although I'm sure they were expecting trouble from any ANTI-Tea Party protesters [and there were only a few] - NOT from us? The entire afternoon was dignified and peaceful.

One of the greatest highlights for me was when people were going out to the sidewalk in between speakers and holding out their signs for the public to react to. There was a lot of traffic since we were in a park next to the Post Office and it was Tax Day! Well the honks that people were getting were fantastic!! I've never heard so many honks. Seriously! Truly awesome. See, there is this busy corner of Redwood Road and Castro Valley Blvd. (in Castro Valley near where I live) where practically every week there are protestors with signs up about impeaching Bush - well not anymore - and against the War, etc. And while they might get a few honks - they NEVER get the kind of reception that I witnessed yesterday. I told my sister and my mom that we'd have to take our signs and go and stand on that same corner to see the reaction we'd get?!

This experience has truly uplifted my spirits. People are ready to stand up for their country and demand to be heard. People are pulling together to remind government that they work for us. People are remembering what they learned about our Founding Fathers and what they went through to create this great Nation.

BUT THEN THIS HAPPENED! Consider me irate, annoyed, and frankly PISSED OFF this afternoon [still high on the inside I guess!] I just watched that awful clip with Janeane Garofalo and Keith Olbermann. I couldn't believe the venom and lies coming out of her mouth. Have you seen this crap? I have never been called a racist so many times in my life as I have in the past 3 months.

I ask the question again, "So if you didn't like any of our other Presidents [all of them white] does that make YOU a racist?!"
Come on people - haven't we moved past this issue?

I think it was Mark Levin yesterday who said [in response to mainstream media commentaries on the Parties], that, "...the wars against slavery and segregation have been fought and won..." And he's right! They have been. They were won. We're now in a war for our freedom.

*sigh* I'm so ticked at the awful news coverage that the Tea Parties have gotten. Completely skewed to the left and not impartial at all. Sure there were going to be some signs that were negative towards the President. HELLO?! Are the liberals going to say that in any one of their many many protests signs were NOT disparaging towards Bush or other Presidents? SERIOUSLY?? Give me a break. I've been telling everyone I can about my personal experience with the Tea Party in the hopes that they won't buy into the crap that they see on the TV.

But I guess that in the scheme of things we don't have as much right to protest as the left wingers. Right? That's what they are telling us. From what I can gather most events were similar to mine - there were permits that had to be gotten and they were peaceable. We didn't have streets shut down in order to have our voices heard or throw trash or other paraphernalia to get our points across. Nope. We just exercised our right to Free Assembly [but it wasn't free mind you] and held up our signs. Sure I can see what the media and left wingers are so mad about.... OOPS MORE OF US SHOWED UP THAN YOU THOUGHT WOULD RIGHT?! Jackasses. That's right - we're awake now, bitches. How do ya like them apples?

Man..I'm just so MAD. But even more importantly, I'm disappointed. I'm disappointed that the media is painting this very special event as only a Republican event. What happened to journalism? Just when did the press turn into such pandering, weak-minded, fearful, and catering robots? Seriously. WHEN did that happen?! It's horrific. What is surging right now in this country is a real movement - an American movement. An American re-awakening as you will. This movement respects the very simple and explicit laws and articles of the Constitution. And that's EVERYONE's issue. And the media should be reporting on THAT. They should be celebrating Americans waking up and going back to their roots.

And don't even get me started on the Janet #2 debacle. Seriously. Target people like me as threats to our nation - not Islamic Radicals, Terrorists abroad or at home, or hell even Iran or North Korea. No no no..I'm much more of a threat. Pfft....what an idiot.

...one lump or two?

So I am going to attend my first real protest tomorrow. I cannot believe I'm going to do it honestly. Usually, I dislike protestors and find them incredibly annoying. And tomorrow I'm going to put on my annoying protestor hat and attend a TEA PARTY!! I cannot attend the entire time - but I'll be there. I'll stand up and show myself. I'll be more than just a ranty voice on the internet. I'm a little excited. And I have no idea as to what to expect! However - I hope that you also find yourself taking part in history tomorrow. Oh yea - we get to have our own little historical moment too.....!! Not just the 'Prez....!
I certainly hope some lefty doesn't come along and do anything to my car!

WARNING: I'm getting a rant on!
This means I may sacrifice a wee bit of grammatical structure...you've been warned!

So much has gone on since my last post: Piracy, Right-Wing Radical Threats, lifts on travel to/fro Cuba, Obama agreeing to allow an international board to have a say in the running of U.S. companies....DUDE. What the hell is going on?! Who let the dogs out?![woof! woof!]

According to this article, Obama is just pissing all over the Declaration of Independence - and not behind closed doors anymore. "The Financial Stability Board then has the international authority to set policies in these corporations, including compensation packages the private boards of directors in the examined companies decide to pay top executives and senior managers."

I simply don't get it. I don't understand how on earth Congress will/can go along with this. Why the news networks aren't broadcasting this latest development as much as they can. Why on earth should ANY foreign entity have any say in how we run our businesses? We don't get to tell other nations how to run. We don't have a say in other nations' immigation policies, border protection, taxing, political venues, television and radio broadcasts. So why in the hell are we allowing ourselves to be governed and told what we can and can't do by other governments?

WHY WHY WHY? Forget your white guilt. Forget your need to save the earth from itself. Why should ANY American living and working on their own turf ever have to listen to another nation telling them what to do? Because these other nations have done so much better than us? What makes them better? More knowledgeable?

NOT A DAMNED THING. Nothing makes them better. This very country was founded in order to govern on it's own without answering to any other nation. This country has been a success story on every single level. This country has grown into such a power that other countries over the years have needed OUR help. This country is still the richest country on the planet. Don't kid yourselves - our poorest of the poor are still considered rich by many other nations' standards. And do you know why that is?

Our people govern. Our people have a say. The government of our nation was set up in order to keep the government from taking control over everything. That's why it takes so long to get anything done - it was DELIBERATELY done. Big Government is NOT the answer. Big Government cannot be trusted or allowed to make all decisions for its people. When allowed to do so it only crushes its people and lifts a small few into power. It creates paranoia, fear, depression and violence to a level that a lot of you "No War / Peace" people would be SHOCKED to experience.

And here I sit today watching us creeping closer and closer to that very scary reality. This is big people. Make it stop!! Arguments about recycling, living green, oil prices, and pro-life can wait. They'll always be there. Fine. But come together and PRESERVE YOUR NATION. Embrace liberty and freedom. DO SOMETHING!

OH crap I've gone all "radical" now haven't I? I'm what is now? An extremist? A racist? Isn't that right? Isn't that what they are now labeling folks like me? Give me a break. I'm an AMERICAN. I will NOT stop expressing my opinion and talking to anyone who will listen about what is going on. I will NOT stop. But I sure wish YOU would! [Yes, that's directed right at the big O] Go back to Chicago and work on your committees. You are not fit for Office.

Oh and CHECK THIS OUT. Obama on the economy. What a frigging joke. I think I'd rather watch the Octomom trying to justify her breeding program.

On a lighter note...
I had to re-institute "Boot Camp - Momma style" last night with my son. Pushups. Extra Chores. More Pushups. 25 sentences of "I will not be disrespectful to Mom" - written neatly, mind you, which can be tricky for a 12 year-old! You'd think that he'd know by now that I mean what I say. And I will enforce what I say. Heck I'm not working - I've got nothing better to do!!! *wink*

I also wanted to share this DELIGHTFUL video with everyone. It brought me to tears and I think EVERYONE will feel better having watched. Susan Boyle Sings

EDITED TO ADD

...wasting time on regrets

I saw this great poll today at Soda Head asking people if they REGRET VOTING FOR OBAMA. The funny thing is that (at the time I looked at the results) if the 16% that admits to regretting their vote were added up with the 39% that didn't vote - we'd have 55% of the votes. What you didn't know about me is that I've been unemployed since October [thank you Economy!] and I'm actively looking for work. So today I'm getting my hair cut in order to present myself better next week with a couple of meetings I've scheduled. You ask yourself, "What on earth does that have to do with anything? Has she finally gone over the edge?!"

Well no - I haven't. But I came across this GREAT blog this morning as I sat down with my morning coffee and magazines to help me find the best haircut [because - REALLY - it will matter!]. It made me realize that I too want to be cool *wink*. Mostly it just made me laugh. And I had to share. So enjoy!

Here is an excerpt, "I'm tired of listening to one pie-eyed Obamaphile after another blithering about B.O.'s coolness. Now Susan Estrich, even in the face of the new President's bumbling foreign policy, rapacious ear-marked spending, and ham-handed meddling with American industries, has the temerity to write an article about the Obamas titled Mr. Cool......"
READ: What's So Cool About the Obamas? by Ralph Alter at The American Thinker.

EDITED TO ADD
MSNBC has a Live Poll for folks to vote on Obama's performance thus far. Have you guys ever been there? I'm not exactly sure how I feel about it to be honest. On the one hand, reaching out to America in a venue that so many Americans use seems practical. But...I can't help but wonder if it's a tad tacky. Of course ...it's MUCH better than appearing on a late-night comedy show isn't it?!

ANYWAY that isn't really what prompted me to post twice in one day. [Still celebrating my son's birthday today!] No what prompted me was surfing around the Agenda section of the site that lists out the Barack/Biden Agenda. And let me tell you - I had myself a little giggle. Feel free to go and check it out for yourself, but I had to copy/paste some direct quotes.

Fiscal Agenda [Actual Link]
"President Obama has been a strong advocate for sound budget practices and the reduction of wasteful spending in Washington. He is committed to fiscal transparency and accountability and ensuring that all new tax cuts and spending commitments are paid for without burdening our children and grandchildren with excessive debt."
REALLY?! Huh because it sure seems to be "sound budget practices" to push legislation through that call for billions, or is it trillions now?, to be spent without allowing time for people to read and/or have a say. Not to mention ignoring those financial experts who shout how bad the plan is.

"End Wasteful Government Spending: Obama and Biden will stop funding wasteful, obsolete federal government programs that make no financial sense."
Again all I can muster in my head is...REALLY?!

Technology Agenda [Actual Link]
"Encourage Diversity in Media Ownership: Encourage diversity in the ownership of broadcast media, promote the development of new media outlets for expression of diverse viewpoints, and clarify the public interest obligations of broadcasters who occupy the nation's spectrum.
Gee - that sounds like The Fairness Doctrine to me. Or rather the Censorship Doctrine. You know forcing us to listen to viewpoints we don't want to. Forcing media to toe the government line. You know - KILLING FREE SPEECH.

Immigration Agenda [Actual Link]
"Bring People Out of the Shadows: Support a system that allows undocumented immigrants who are in good standing to pay a fine, learn English, and go to the back of the line for the opportunity to become citizens."
Sure it's okay if you snuck in here - between you and me we can make it work. How on earth are they going to force them to learn English? That is laughable.

"For too long, politicians in Washington have exploited the immigration issue to divide the nation rather than find real solutions. Our broken immigration system can only be fixed by putting politics aside and offering a complete solution that secures our border, enforces our laws, and reaffirms our heritage as a nation of immigrants."
"Remove Incentives to Enter Illegally: Remove incentives to enter the country illegally by cracking down on employers who hire undocumented immigrants."
On a personal note, I was once married to a Scotsman and we went by the book in order to allow him to remain legally in the States. We went through interviews and documentation - the whole works. The immigration system isn't broken because it's too hard to get here for crying out loud. No what's broken is that our borders are NOT properly secured and enforced. By a long-shot. [And yes, I know that we have businesses and employers here who are willing to save money by not having to pay for health care, employment insurance, etc.] I just firmly believe that there needs to be a bigger deterrent AT THE BORDER. And I don't see Obama paying any attention to THAT.

Foreign Policy [Actual Link]
"Renew our Alliances: Obama and Biden will rebuild our alliances to meet the common challenges of the 21st century. America is strongest when we act alongside strong partners. Now is the time for a new era of international cooperation that strengthens old partnerships and builds new ones to confront the common challenges of the 21st century -- terrorism and nuclear weapons; climate change and poverty; genocide and disease."
Yeah- off to a great start with gifts of DVDs and an iPod, right?

"Ensure a Strong U.S.-Israel Partnership: Barack Obama and Joe Biden strongly support the U.S.-Israel relationship, and believe that our first and incontrovertible commitment in the Middle East must be to the security of Israel, America's strongest ally in the region. They support this closeness, and have stated that the United States will never distance itself from Israel."
Remember my post last month about his supporting reducing Israel's territory..? Off to another great start!

I could go on and on....but really the site deserves a look at by anyone who might read this blog. I was amused and disgusted all at the same time!

...mother of a twelve-year old

Today is my son's 12th birthday. I simply cannot believe that twelve years have gone by so quickly. I know all parents find themselves surprised at the speed that time flashes by us as we live in our day to day lives. But it doesn't mean that I'm any less affected by the wonder of it all.

I sit here and wonder if I'm preparing him enough for what he is going to face as he grows up. I'm no Sarah Connor mind you, but I'm doing what I can. We [my family and I] focus on honor and integrity. Honesty. Valor. He's involved with martial arts. His TV watching is monitored by me. He gets very limited electronics play time. VERY limited. His music is monitored by me. Point in fact I told him that he could no longer listen to Chris Brown after that bastard beat the hell out of his girlfriend, Rihanna. My son's reaction? "Okay, Mom." He was incensed and appalled. He also is very confused as to why the media talks about it the way they do, AND why she would ever take him back. He willingly helped me to toss out any CD's we had and music on our computer and MP3 players.

My family and I have had to do "double duty" as far as school is concerned. Apparently they aren't even teaching them about WWII and the Holocaust. My 6th-grader hadn't ever heard of Hitler. We were stunned. He wasn't being taught how to draft and create paragraphs. Now, this could just be a symptom of his school in particular, which happens to be in a terrible district...but I wonder? Just what are they teaching our kids and what are they NOT?! Never heard of Hitler? Really? Am I remembering my own schooling so badly that it wasn't taught to me until Junior High? Well thankfully my sister has been trained to write and she has undertaken tutoring. We talked to him about Hitler and the Holocaust. We are teaching him about government - in fact I'm going to show him that wonderful video I found at RightKlik's blog this weekend.

I refuse to let the school educate my son about sex - I've been very frank and honest with him on sexual matters. He can ask me anything. I personally have chosen to set an example & do not date or have casual sex. No strange men in my house. Luckily, he still isn't interested in girls. He's quite shy in that respect. He knows that will change - but he's not ready for it. He knows he doesn't want to become a father early in life. (Keep your fingers crossed!)

While I talk about my beliefs at home, I encourage him to just listen and learn and allow himself to make up his own mind as he grows and matures. I don't want him to just be a robot that spouts off what he hears at home - don't we have enough of those?! He's exposed to different forums at home: talk radio, tv news, internet news, etc. I share it all with him.

But is it enough? Am I doing enough?! In my son's case - yes, I believe it is. He is a good, strong, kind, generous boy with a great sense of humor. He is intelligent. He loves spending time with his family. He doesn't go looking for trouble [not REAL trouble]. He respects the law. He is honest - in fact he's a TERRIBLE liar and he knows it! He is charitable. I'm so proud of him.

I'm not exactly sure what my original intent for this post was as I sat down to write it. Bear with me here. Perhaps it was just simply to honor my wonderful son and the man I know he's going to grow up to be. In spite of the current state of our nation, and maybe also because of it!

Happy Birthday to my boy.

...we're the smallest minority in the world

A friend shared this link with me today and it's fantastic. In 1984 actally. I totally hated it then and hate it now. The government or "Big Brother" told people how to think, what to think, when to think, etc. Yes it was boring reading to my 14 year-old mind, but I got the gist. And I HATED it.

And here we are 25 years later and I'm feeling as if I'm being pulled kicking and screaming into those pages that I loathed so much in my youth. I'm scared. I'm terrified. And I'm ANGRY. Why on earth do I feel as if I'm one of the precious few that are "immune" to the virus that is going around and spreading like wildfire now? Why on earth won't people wake up and see what is instead of spending so much of their time in the "promise" of what "can be"? HELLO?! People? You won't be able to save anyone or the world if you're brainwashed!

I am simply and utterly frozen in my tracks. I do not know what to do. I do not know how else to reach people and urge them to use their good brains and not allow themselves to be led to their ruin. What on earth can we do? How do we wake people up? I'm actually feeling quite depressed about it - really. I'm so sad for America. I'm so sad for my friends - conservative or not. A lot of them are good decent people and they just are not seeing what is going on around them. I get wanting to feel protected and safe - but this SO isn't the way!

What can I do?! I want out of this story!!! It would appear that the steady and hard-working Orly Taitz is starting to get heard. She has been making the rounds. She has been doing her due diligence and discovering that perhaps the clerks have been working to keep cases that deal with Obama's eligibility away from the Judges' eyes. How scary is that?!

READ ON:
Chief justice publicly accepts WND's eligibility petition
Her Motion to Reconsider
Three Cheers for Orly Taitz

I sincerely hope that the documents/cases get heard now. Apparently they haven't even made it that far. It's one thing to have your case heard and then dismissed for legal grounds - but to not even get heard? COME ON!

This issue is huge. The Petition numbers continue to grow. There are over 330,000 signatures made by American Citizens that want these allegations to be heard. Over 330,000 American Citizens that doubt their President's eligibility. It needs to be heard and addressed. What is our country coming to if in fact we cannot get heard?

In further good news, it would appear that Obama's popularity is slipping. The American people are not as excited about his performance as they were about his possibilities prior to Office. I am not surprised. As fast as he's been pushing the Left-Train around the tracks, it was bound to get some notice and raise eyebrows. He certainly campaigned a little more moderately than his actions are showing. In truth, I believe that the majority of the Democratic Party aren't lefties & tend to vote somewhat towards "middle ground" or "slightly conservative" anyway. And now they're seeing that the man they put into Office is VERY left. And they aren't liking that.

Lastly for today, I just Signed a Tea Party Petition, won't you?

...buhbye wikipedia

Well. You and several other experienced and trained police officers are in the middle of a hostage situation outside of a bank. During a transfer of some hostages (as agreed upon by negotiators), shots are fired and a couple of the hostages are hit. This leads to a massive spray of bullets from both sides for several minutes, before the lead officer is able to call for a cease fire. Several officers have been wounded and/or killed, as well as the criminals and a few more hostages - but the officers manage to gain control of the situation.

Still with me?

Well during the investigation, it's determined that the original shots came from the "good guys" side of the fence. Further digging reveals that the security guard from a neighboring building pulled the trigger. Despite the strict protocol that only Law Enforcement Officers and Officials were allowed to be in the vacinity, he had been allowed to stick around because he didn't really pose a threat.

Except that now he's the one responsible for the blood bath. If the rules had been followed - he wouldn't have been there in the first place. And perhaps no one would have been killed or hurt.

If only the rules had been followed.....

Perhaps it isn't the best analogy, but I think that is what is going on with this fight by some citizens over proof of Obama's eligibility to have run for Office in the first place. After reading THIS ARTICLE this morning - I am very worried. It talks about how the American public voted him in - so that should be enough. Forget the fact that IF all of the correct protocol had been followed, it's likely that he never would have been an option for folks to vote for right?!? Leave it up to the voters? Forget the Constitution. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

We're being encouraged to just forget the fact that the Constitution was written VERY carefully to try and protect us from having someone that doesn't 100% stand behind the American Way of Life as our Leader and Chief. It specifically addresses Natural Born Citizens, as well as dual-citizenship. Specifically. Our forefathers were very bright guys. They knew this was the land of opportunity that others from the around the world would continue to emigrate to and make their way. They knew that this would be a country that others would want to tear down. They knew how powerful and prosperous it would be. Freedom kind of does that for ya.

Those bylaws were put in place to protect us. Protect us from ourselves and ignorance. Let's face it - not everyone REALLY pays attention or digs for the facts. Lots of us just kind of "like a candidate" and vote. And if I hadn't known any better, hadn't done my homework (because it IS tiring to do your homework), I might have fallen for his more charming than McCain ways too. But I didn't. I did my homework. A few of us did - but only a few.

And now here we are. Being chastised by our elected officials. Come on..let this one go. It isn't that big of a deal....Shhh...don't be such sticklers for the rules. He got the majority vote...come on....don't be dicks.

My ass.
It's my country and I'll be a dick about it if I want to.

Edited to Add
Thanks to a fellow blogger, I came across a link to Obama's Timeline. There is a poll and story about what they call the "Birthers" pushing to have more documentation proving Obama's eligibility to have run for Office. Here is the Article.

Now it isn't very flattering naturally. But it goes to show that folks ARE listening and thinking. AND if you participate in the poll (which I did) you'll note that it is closer to a 50-50 split than what I would have guessed between participants that have doubts. You'd think that would be enough to have Obama just release his documents and get it over with. Right?!.....?! Well no - but I like seeing such close percentages. It boosts me up a wee bit to see folks paying attention.

...the fight goes on

Article: Major General says president's eligibility needs proof

Folks are still fighting to have Obama's documents brought out of whatever deep and dark hole they've been buried in to prove he was in fact eligible to run for Office. Personally? I think this is the biggest hoax we've ever been witness to to in this country. When the truth finally is allowed to come out - what on earth are the court justices and politicians going to to do about it? Probably not a damned thing. Out of fear.

You have to ask yourself - why the secrecy? Why the many law firms hired to in fact keep his documents sealed and hidden? McCain complied with a very thorough investigation over his eligibility. Obama and his camp has fought it from the beginning. I bet they didn't think that folks would fight this hard or look this closely at the man's credentials.

I firmly believe the man is a liar and the biggest threat to the American way of life we've ever seen. But he isn't what scares me the most. What scares me the most is the fact that we, the people, will LET him get away with it. That we will continue to just sit blindly by and allow this man to change our entire way of life without so much as a peep about it. It terrifies me.

On a personal note, I'm tired of this nasty cold giving me vertigo. Who does this guy think he's fooling?

No one really wants to have "frank" conversations about race. When white people try to have "frank" conversations or discussions with people of other races, anything that can be construed as negative is labeled as racist. There isn't any true debate option available. It isn't an even playing field. And yet white people carry the burden of guilt and responsibility for everything wrong with the nation.

It's human nature to group together with those that have similar likes, dislikes and values. You can't force or command or bend human nature to your will. It simply isn't possible. Why? Do I crave having to share the remote control? Do I honestly want to give up having ALL of the space in the closets and bed? HELL NO. But my boy can just simply drive me nuts. What I wouldn't give right now to have the ability to say, "Wait until your father comes home!". Oh to see the fear in the boy's eyes and then to just walk away. To be able to simply hand over the keys and hide out for awhile. Oh yes.

Single parenting SUCKS. I wonder if I would have ever had a child if I'd known going in that I'd end up raising him alone. I don't think I would have. Kids need a mother and a father. It's a job for 2 (at least!) Of course single parenting can be done. It's done all of the time. But at what price? To the parents? To the kids? Kids should have both parents actively involved if possible (and of course IF both parents are responsible and solid role models).

I'm lucky that I have a very involved family that is there for both of us. Blessed if you will. I don't know what I would do without them. Not only do I get emotional support, but they help out with the "extras" so that my son can do activities that he wouldn't be able to do otherwise. He has been able to form deep emotional bonds with my family that will never go away. So yes, we're lucky. BUT at the end of the day, I'm still a single mom dealing with a very strong-willed boy. A boy who appears to be trying to assert his control over the house and rules. Of course he isn't going to win. I am the parent. I set the rules. I am the adult. I don't date and bring strange men home. I set the example. I know what is best for him. And deep down - I think he knows all of that. But it certainly doesn't stop him for defying me at nearly every turn.

And it's just simply draining the life right out of me. (I think I found 4 new gray hairs just this week alone. *wink*)

For the single parents that take their jobs as seriously as I do - my heart goes out to you. It's a tough and often thankless job, right? And if you have more than one kid, you ought to have a medal. (And please let me know your tricks to staying sane!) I know that lots of folks find themselves in this role after a marriage doesn't work out. It isn't what you planned for - but it's what you have. It's what happened to me. And that situation comes with a huge pile of baggage following you around for years. It totally sucks.

To those that purposefully choose to become single parents? Pffft. I want to smack you reproachfully on the back of your heads (ala Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs on "NCIS"). Quit being so selfish. Quit thinking of yourself, your desire to nest, and what you want. Think of the kids involved. Kids need TWO good parents. Don't choose a difficult set of circumstances for them. Ok? You may make a great mom (or dad), so be sure to pick a great counterpart ahead of time.

Discrimination really appears to be ONE sided these days...

Seriously....? Told me that she could never associate with someone like me. I was shocked and surprised to hear myself first of all called names by a "friend", and secondly to find myself linked to those particular names. Actually, I'm still shocked and surprised. And hurt. But forget the hurt for right now. [Although I guess I'll save a stamp on THAT holiday card in the future...]

According to Dictionary.com here is what "racist" means:

racist –noun

1.

a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.

2.

a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.

3.

hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.

Huh - that doesn't really fit me at all. I don't believe I'm fit to rule over anyone, unless you jokingly want to say I rule over my son. I don't feel that I, or my race for that matter, is superior, nor do I act as such. I do not hate people as a general rule (not even my ex). And I certainly don't discriminate or demonstrate against those of other races. So according to Dictionary.com - I am not a racist.

I am starting to think that people are using the word more liberally (ha! get it?) and generally than they used to. It seems to me these days when a white person (such as myself) disagrees with or doesn't like or speaks out against someone of another color - that makes them a racist. Forget what differences of opinion there may be. One is white and doesn't agree so therefore they are a racist. Am I right? Do I have it correct now? If so - then someone needs to contact Dictionary.com and get it updated and certainly send out a bulletin to folks like me that won't blindly go along with everyone else.

This friend of mine didn't like the posts I'd done here. Didn't like the casualness in which I talked about the now historical election of the first black man as President of the United States. Do I think it's historical? Of course I do. However, what I don't think is that should be ALL people focus on. A man shouldn't be President simply based upon the color of his skin, AND people shouldn't only be happy that he was elected because it's the first time it's ever happened. There are bigger issues at stake here. Truly.

I think there are some very important questions and documents that Obama needs to answer and provide to prove first of all that he meets all of the eligibility (as a Natural Born Citizen) to EVEN RUN FOR OFFICE. He has not done so YET. There are court cases, like I linked to in a post below, still fighting for him to do so. Why the secrecy? Why not just prove that he does in fact meet all of the eligibility requirements?

I don't think that a man that admittedly sought endorsement from the Marxist Party, as well as admitted in one of his books that he sought out the company of Marxist students while in college should be considered to run for Office. Marxism is NOT what the United States of a America has ever stood for.

I firmly believe that his ultimate goal is to turn America into a Socialist country. To create dependency by it citizens upon the government. To cripple entrepreneurs and capitalism. To be in power and "rule" over the nation. To kill Free Speech and independent thinking.

But that doesn't make me a racist. Nor does it make me narrow-minded. It mostly just makes me very scared. Obama still has so many supporters that aren't looking past his pretty words and reading between the lines. He's already said he want's to "remake America". What on earth do people honestly think that means?! Remaking means to completely change over. Not put back on track.

Another friend of mine thinks that our nation is heading for another Civil War. Brother vs. brother. Friend vs. friend. And after what happened to me today, I have to start to think that prediction could very well come true.

Now THAT is scary.

boot camp - day 2

I told you it wouldn't last.

Even after I told my son that I'd blogged about our little experiment (and he chuckled over it along with me), I still had to be "Enforcer Mom!" Times when I have to shake my head when I have gone "back to the basics" and found just how well they work.

My son is nearly 12 years old. He's quite spirited and strong-minded. And, like many kids growing up, testing the waters to see what he can and can't do. He's testing me 24/7 to see just how strongly I will back up what I tell him. And dude - he's finding out the hard way.

Our current biggest "issue" is homework. He doesn't want to do it. Duh. I get that. Tough luck. He likes to "negotiate" - but what that really adds up to his is constant "fast-talking-so-she-will-wear-down" motus operandi. He asks. I tell him no he has to do it. He asks again. I tell him no again. He starts to interrupt and say "wait" and starts to just try to talk loudly and quickly over what I'm saying in the hopes I'll give in just to shut him up. Sound familiar?

I'm tired of it. It is disrespectful for one thing. It's annoying for another. And it just wastes time. His time. My time. It's completely ineffective and the ONLY sure-fire result is that I get ticked off and punish him. He gets ticked off and acts up even more and gets into even more trouble. This has been going on for a few weeks. But yesterday I went "back to the basics".

I made the dummy do push-ups. When he predictably started to "over-talk" me (I'm so sorry I cannot think of a better term), I made him do push-ups. Unfortunately for me, I only had to do this once. I was quite looking forward to doing it over and over. But I was disappointed on that front. The boy got the message and made himself go and do his homework in a timely manner.

I just had to share since it just goes to show you that you CAN diffuse a potentially difficult night with methods from boot camp. That complete structure and physical discipline (that doesn't require spanking or flogging) DOES work. I didn't hurt his spirit and I enforced my will and the rules in my house.

Last night was a success. It won't last. Maybe next time I'll also make him run around the block......

Mom: 1
Boy: 0

I hope they don't censor this...

Next on the Agenda from Washington? The "Fairness Doctrine". The policy, originally introduced in 1949, required that radio and television stations give equal time to conservative and liberal opinions on political issues under the threat of penalties or license revocation. The policy was abandoned in 1987 by President Reagan.

Never heard of it? Not sure what it means? It means - bottom line - CENSORSHIP. The death of Free Speech. Here are some interesting links:

1. World Net Daily Feb 12, 2009
2. World Net Daily Feb 3, 2009
3. Petition to Oppose
4. Wall Street Journal Editorial by Jon Sinton

This scares me big time. This isn't really about incorporating equal time to differing sides of an issue. (Hell we're not talking about an official debate anyway.) This is about shutting up those voices that would dissent from Big Brother's Plan. Read the novel by George Orwell, "1984" if you don't know the term.

Liberals can't seem to get a big enough audience in the Talk Radio genre. There doesn't appear to be the audience - so there aren't any advertisers to keep them afloat. Ironically, mainstream media (i.e., TV) appears to be just FINE with leaning liberal left and not presenting a more even and balanced picture for its audience. People like me have to turn to the Internet, Radio, and what few TV options they have to find those they can identify with.

So, because there doesn't appear to be a strong liberal audience in Talk Radio, the goal is to effectively KILL Talk Radio. Punish the winner because the loser can't manage to succeed. Strip it down to it's bones, folks. This isn't about equality. This is about killing the American Spirit and the ability to think freely.

"Oh no don't be silly. This is America. The land of the free. Of course you can listen to whatever you want - as long as we've deemed it's appropriate for you. As long as we've weeded out the unmentionables that might offend your senses. We're here to protect and keep you safe. You don't have to worry your pretty little head about anything - we'll take care of you."

THOSE are the thoughts that are running around in my brain. THOSE are the speeches I'm afraid we're going to be hearing from this Administration soon. I'm really hoping that I'm not alone in my fears and that there are other Americans willing to stand with me and do what they can to ensure that this "Fairness Doctrine" doesn't get put back into play.

Seriously - whether you agree with conservatism or not. Do you really want to lose your right to listen to whatever the hell you want? If not - go and sign the petition and tell somebody else to.

p.s. Happy Birthday Mr. Lincoln. I wonder how he would feel about the "Fairness Doctrine"?

Be careful what you wish for...

I'm scared. I'm concerned. I feel as if I'm one of the few true Americans left. Hence this editorial.

We currently have a President that I firmly believe is going to move our once-great nation into dark times unlike any we have ever seen. Unfortunately, it was fairly easy for him to win. Fairly easy for him to claim his throne and "rule". [His campaign's word NOT mine]. We made it very easy for this man to have his "historical" moment. The first black man to be elected. Whoop-dee-f'g-do.

But is he the RIGHT man? No. [He's a LEFT man - every pun intended.] Was he qualified? No. He has only been a Senator for a few years and never held any higher office. Was he even eligible to run for Office? I don't think so! And I've joined others in continuing the court cases to have him show proof - see here. Why the secrecy? What is he hiding? What fraud is he committing - and how did we let it happen? I'm more concerned with his agenda than his skin color or making history.

But I digress....what I'm really ticked at what Obama represents. Now in this time.

As a nation we have become lazy. Self-involved. Ignorant of what is going on in Washington. Why should we care really? We don't live there. What they do doesn't affect us - right? As a nation we've let our government become lazy and unmotivated to focus upon US - the voters that put them in their chairs in the first place. We've allowed the government to SPEND SPEND SPEND without paying attention to what was purchased. We've allowed our government to keep our Deficit growing instead of decreasing. Yes - we've allowed this to happen. You. Me. The weird guy down the street.

As a nation we've allowed ourselves to be distracted with Global Warming, being Politically Correct, and making sure that every other unfortunate soul in the world has the same rights as we do. In our distracted mode we've allowed our rights to be taken away - no, given away - to others that aren't even in our country's borders legally. We've allowed ourselves to be trained to be afraid of offending others. We've allowed ourselves to feel GUILT over being part of a successful system and country. We've allowed ourselves to forget what the founders of this country sacrificed and fought for - FREEDOM.

We are no longer free. We are held hostage by others' beliefs and desires. We are a mere shadow of the nation that we once were. We are the laughing stock of the world really. Not a nation to be taken seriously. Not anymore. There are terrorist training camps on U.S. soil. But we weren't supposed to know about it. Doesn't seem like anything was done about it. We have millions of illegal immigrants living here that receive financial aid paid for by you and me. We aren't allowed to effectively patrol our borders. We aren't going to be able to question terrorists in an effective manner to receive crucial information - no we're going to have to ask nicely and hope for the best. We're going to suffer through the Fairness Doctrine and watch Free Speech get flushed down the toilet. Our government just passed a $790 Billion Stimulus bill that is going to further erode our infrastructure and push our towards Socialism and Nationalism. I don't think we'll ever be able to recover.

And because we've allowed it and given him the keys, Obama will further drive our country right into the ground called Socialism. He doesn't respect individuality or personal gain [unless it's his own]. He wants to "remake America" for goodness sake. Not pull America out of it's economic slump and put it back on the track of being the World's most powerful nation. Oh no. He wants to "remake America". Into something else.

As I sit here and read what I've written, I realize that there is a reason that I don't make my living writing political essays for publications. But I am a citizen [yes a Natural Born Citizen!]. I am a registered voter. And I do pay attention. I do care. I do NOT support turning out nation into a Socialist nation or regime. I want to feel proud of my neighbors and know that we are all a part of something great. Something great. Something that embodies the values that I am teaching my son: honor, honesty, valor.

I remember what it was like when the great Reagan was our President. I remember what they taught us in history classes growing up about the importance of freedom at all costs and the price of liberty. I've noticed that they aren't teaching the same lessons in schools today. My son, who is in the 6th grade, didn't even know who Hitler was or what the Holocaust was. That's right. They aren't talking about that at his school. No they are teaching them what Islam religious leaders are called.

NOW is the time for people like me to pay even closer attention. To make sure that our political representatives do not continue to "drink the kool-aid" and become cowardly zombies in order to keep their pensions. It is up to us to make sure our voices ARE heard and to stand up for justice and truth.

And - dammit - the American Way.

Drill Here Drill Now

I signed the petition.
